PacMan on Google Maps! (April Fools Day)

It’s April 1st. Supposed to be a fun day of seeing people coming up with brilliant and creative ways to bring some light-hearted humour in a typically frantic and busy lifestyle. Here’s one.

Google has embedded the classic Pacman game on their popular Google Maps. Here’s what you can do.

  1. Use Google Chrome.
  2. Point your URL to maps.google.com
  3. Choose a neighbourhood with many streets.
  4. Click the Pacman icon on your bottom left of the screen.
  5. Voila! You’re playing Pacman at your own neighbourhood!
Remember, do this only during break time. The boss may be lurking somewhere near you.

Three Parodies on Worship, Church service, and Prosperity Gospel

Parodies are used to mock or provide a cynical look at things that seem to be more hype than reality. Even in Churches, sometimes we need to learn to laugh at ourselves but at the same time, be aware that we may easily fall into such temptations too. If we are not careful. Check out the following three parodies. The first is the sad state of wrongful worship that some churches and Christians are somewhat guilty of. The second reminds us about the temptation of focusing on man's needs to the extreme. The third is a familiar prosperity gospel clip. Laugh but do not laugh too hard. We may be caught doing it sometime.

"What Would Jesus Tweet?"

This past week, someone mentioned Charles Sheldon's classic work, "In His Steps." It brings back memories of the What-Would-Jesus-Do (WWJD) movement. That book was published way back before the end of the 19th Century. Man! I wasn't even born yet!

As I ponder about it, I ask myself about what is the modern equivalent of WWJD? Immediately, I think about what will best symbolize social media. Snail mail is dead. Email is ancient. Cell messaging limits only 1-to-1. Probably, Twitter is most visible. I suppose the modern equivalent of WWJD in communications is: "What would Jesus tweet?"

This idea is nothing new. Twitter is the face of quick, short, cheap, and classy communication of choice. Within a limit of 140 characters, here are 16 possible things that Jesus would tweet. There can be more.
  1. "You shall have no other gods before Me."
  2. "I am coming soon. Are you prepared for me?"
  3. "I've missed you."
  4. "Be perfect, for I am perfect."
  5. "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
  6. "Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men."
  7. "Whatever you have done for the least, you have done unto Me."
  8. "Whoever receives this child receives Me."
  9. "If you say You loved Me, why aren't you obeying what I say?"
  10. "I waited and waited and waited. But you never call."
  11. "Love God with all your heart, mind, and will."
  12. "Why didn't you let Me take care of your worries?"
  13. "My peace I give unto you. Yet you refuse. Why?"
  14. "Trust Me."
  15. "My child, I love you."
  16. "Follow Me."
Perhaps, you can be more creative than my list above. While you're at it, let me share this brilliant Youtube clip made by an extremely creative person about the Passover. It is basically a re-telling of the Exodus story. It uses the best of social media like Google, Amazon, Facebook, Skype, Wikipedia, and of course, Twitter. I'm sure some of you can come up with even more creative ideas.

Have a great weekend.

Remembering Reformation Day - Oct 31st, 1517

Last Sunday was Reformation Sunday. Here is a cute video on what 'actually happened,' when Martin Luther pinned the 95 theses on the doors of Wittenburg on October 31st, 1517. This landmark day spawned the famous Reformation in the 16th Century.

Spicing Up My Blog

This blog has been in operation since July 2005. I am looking spicing it up. Today, I added in a local weather widget that you can obtain from iBegin weather. Unfortunately it is only applicable for US and Canada locations only. Hopefully, the owners will work on going global soon. You can see the local weather in Vancouver, BC Canada on the right side of this blog. Check back for more spices in the next couple of weeks. Enjoy.

If you have suggestions on how to spice up blogs, let me know. I'll appreciate it.

Church Open Service + Picnic (28 June 2009)

We had an open-door service at the Fraser River Park on Sunday. The theme was unity in the body from 1 Corinthians 12. Splendid efforts by the organizers. Praise God!

Getting ready for the service. It's already 10.15am!

Some came with chairs, others with ground mats.

Members and Friends enjoying the sunny weather.

A picture of 'Bosa,' proudly drawn by our pastor.

Pastor Josh telling the story of the five fingers and the coin.

Our cool young adults scrambling for answers to 'tough' questions.

Trying to put the words to display the right verse.

Frantically trying to remember what they've learned in Sunday School long time ago...

It has been a beautiful day.

A Million Thank-Yous

Someone sent me this. The Bible says, "In everything give thanks." (1 Thess 5:18) But this is taking it a little too far........
Really funny, but after a while, it gets on your nerves. See how many "Thank yous" can you tolerate? (Hint: for maximum effect, turn on your speakers)
