Reactions to swine flu. I don't know whether to laugh at the news or pity the pig. Someone needs to give a better response to "Better safe than sorry."

Both, but also pity Afghanistan that it has only one pig in the entire country. I realize they have religious reasons for not wanting to eat pork. But pigs make good pets, too. And surely there must be a Christian minority who are allowed to eat pork. Egypt, also a Muslim country, had 300,000 pigs kept by Christian farmers, which it was getting ready to slaughter last I heard, because of the swine flu fears (though they recently changed their story and said it wasn't primarily about the flu but sanitation, since pigs are so dirty; tell that to the farmers who rely on these animals for their livelihoods and don't mind the dirt!).
A country such as Afghanistant that has suffered so much and is still in such chaos cannot settle down enough to enjoy animals and give them good lives. So this poor pig's plight is a sad testimony to the condition of Afghanistan in general.
